There’s something special about exploring Laguna Beach from the water.
We’ve spent years exploring Southern California on foot, but snorkeling Laguna Beach gives us an entirely different perspective. Beneath the cliffs, beaches, and coves is another world filled with reefs, rocky formations, kelp, fish, and marine life that you simply can’t experience from the trail.
Over time, we began exploring Laguna Beach one cove at a time.

Crescent Bay
Crescent Bay is one of those places that immediately reminds us why Laguna Beach is such a special part of the Southern California coastline.
The rocky coastline and underwater structure create a beautiful environment to explore when conditions are right.
Shaw's Cove, Fisherman's Cove, Divers Cove and Treasure Island are hard to beat! These special reefs our some of our favorite places to get in the water. Once you're below the surface, the landscape changes completely. Rocky reef structure, kelp, and marine life make this a fascinating place to explore—and one we've returned to more than once.
Inspiration Point - Little Corona Beach
This unique destination makes snorkeling feel like an true adventure. I snorkeled with a baby seal in the shallow waters here, yet there are deep reefs with diverse marine life as well. The coastline is rugged here with many tide pools to explore at low tide. Exploring the underwater terrain here gives us another reason to slow down and really experience this special destination.

Conditions Make All the Difference...
One of the biggest things we've learned from snorkeling Southern California is that the location is only part of the equation.
Small surf, light winds, and calm ocean conditions can make a huge difference in your snorkeling experience.
When the ocean has been calm for several days, conditions can be much more enjoyable and underwater visibility can improve.
That's one reason we love snorkeling in August. The water is typically warmer, and when everything lines up, Laguna Beach can be an incredible place to explore.
Of course, ocean conditions can change quickly. Always check current conditions before entering the water and know your own limits.
